Growing up, I only had one type of assessment, quizzes or tests. Most kids cram for tests, and after they have taken them, it is most likely forgotten. After watching the film Most Likely to Succeed by Greg Whiteley, I learned how many ways of assessment there are. So it was interesting to see how they incorporated so many projects and made an exhibit for the families and community. That is why I love hands-on learning because it gives children an opportunity to create something with that material instead of taking a test. The movie showed how a teacher-student relationship is a partnership. Teachers are there to guide their students to help them reach their full potential. As a future teacher, it was neat to see how far the students developed throughout the year. They enjoyed their projects, coming out of their shells and working well with one another. You could see the excitement on the kids’ faces when everything was coming together, but you could also see the joy on teachers’ faces and how happy they were for their students. Although it was interesting to see how they taught the curriculum differently, I wonder how they incorporated all of it or if they only did one section. This film has taught me that kids need a variety of assessments, support and encouragement from not only their teachers but their peers.
