Out of all the seasons in the year, I would say autumn is my favourite! It is my favourite season because of all the leaves changing colour. Since I love this season so much, I decided to do my art project on it. For this week’s project, I decided to paint. I wanted to make my first painting full of colour and feel accomplished with that goal!! Although I said I would be planning art ideas for kids this week, I decided to focus on something I wanted to do but could still incorporate those techniques into a lesson.

The first painting I did is the one above. This painting used acrylic paint with a mix of primary colours to get light or darker colours that best suited my favourite fall colours. I saw a similar painting online that made me decide I wanted to attempt it. I drew all the outlines in pencil and then went over them with paint. For the leaves, I used the back of a thicker paint brush and then took a fine brush to spread the paint around, making them look like leaves. As you can see, I also outlined the truck in black. I usually outline with a fine brush but recently discovered paint pens, and it is so much easier!!

Once I finished the first painting, I had some extra time and decided to do another one. My second painting was just something I saw and wanted to recreate. This painting was more time-consuming at times due to paint mixtures. I found it difficult because I mixed quite a few colours to get darker ones, and when I messed up, I had to remember what colours I mixed. Let’s say this took up the majority of my time because I kept messing it up. As far as technique goes, I used a similar one for the grass and for the dark trees in the background, and a thicker brush and dabbed it along the paper. I also used a paint pen for the outline of Snoopy, and a thin Sharpe for Woodstock because the paint pen was too thick.
