Happy Reading Break Everyone!

As we all know this week was remembrance day. This day of remembering is very important to my family because my Grandma’s brothers fought in the Navy in World War two. Although I was never fortunate to meet them since they lived in England, I have heard plenty of stories of their heroic acts. I have also heard stories of my Grandma and her experiences during this time as a little girl. In honour of those people who fought and who continue to fight I did two crafts that can be used in a classroom setting.

For my first craft I decided to use watercolors for the background and the grass and cupcake liners for the poppies. I have not used watercolors since I was a kid. The hardest part was trying to make the blue darker than what it is. I only had light blues so I tried to make it less diluted but had difficulty doing that. As for the grass I used two different types of greens both were different shades of light green. For the cupcake liners I painted them red using acrylic paint to make them stand out more. Once they were dry I folded and shaped them until I liked the look and then glued them to the paper. Once everything was set I did the stems. For the stems I used watercolors again using a dark green. When this was drying I took my hot glue gun and glued the black beads to the middle of the red cupcake liners. Here is the final product below!!

Next I did another poppy craft but used tissue and construction paper. I started by cutting up a whole sheet of red tissue paper. Once this was done I drew out the shape of my poppy with pencil and followed the outline. Do you guys remember wrapping the tissue paper around a pencil to glue the bottom and help shape the paper? Well for some reason it was a lot harder than I remember! I am not sure if I cut the pieces too big or did not wrap them tight enough. The paper would just not stay put.  After I finished doing the red I realized I did not have any black tissue paper so I cut up small sections of construction paper and wrapped them as best I could. The final product is below!!
