Hello Everyone!
For this week’s blog post, I was lucky as Chris and myself got to lead an Art lesson with our linked2practice. We are in a 4 / 5 split class, but what made this lesson even better is they got to do it with their little buddies, kindergarten / 1s. For this lesson, we got to pick the activity, prep it and do the lesson plan. For this art lesson, we had to pick something that the little buddies would be able to do with the assistance of the big buddies. So with that in mind, we decided to do a Winter activity of a melting snowman.
For this snowman, we needed to do a lot of prep. When I do arts and crafts, it usually does not take me long to get the supplies I need. Although, when you are doing it for twenty-two kids, it takes a lot longer. This activity has stencils and buttons to cut out, glue sticks, scissors, pastels and construction paper (light blue, brown, black, and grey). My mentor teacher taught me how to use the printer with many settings and showed me where the craft room was. Cutting all the paper took the longest time, but it was fun to use the paper cutter.
We were lucky enough to do a lesson like this with not only our class but with another class as well. Our mentor teacher gave us a few tips for leading an activity and feedback on our lesson plan. Although this activity works for all ages, we set it up for the little buddies to do the majority of the work with the assistance of their big buddies. The big buddies got to cut on the hat, scarf and hands since it would be harder for the younger kids. They also got to help glue parts of the snowman together. The kids were also very excited to do their first winter activity, in addition to getting to see us lead a class. Something I was excited and ready to see where these students’ creations! So here they are 🙂
Let me know which one you think turned out the best!!

Hey Natasha!
I love this so much – the ones your Link2Practice students did are so cute! Personally, I’m loving the top middle one.
Honestly, I think that this the amount of time it takes to set up specific activities and lessons is one of the things that I’m worried about when running my own classroom. I’m such a perfectionist so I tend to spend waaaay too much time on one thing and fall behind.
This is awesome, can’t wait to see your next project!

Those are bEaUtIfUl. How could I ever pick a favourite??? It’s super neat to see how, if you give everybody the same materials, they can still come up with completely unique creations. What a fun (and cheap?) way to get everyone into the winter spirit! How old were the little buddies? They did an awesome job (so did you and Chris;).

Hey Natasha this is so adorable!! It is so great that you were able to teach an art class especially because it works so well with your inquiry. Also what a great experience doing full blown prep and execution of this task while managing all the grades you were working with so impressive! I cannot just pick one melty snowman they are all so so adorable.

Hi Natasha,
Those snowmen are so cute, I love them.
I really like the activity that you and Chris came up with, it is inclusive and each child can add their own personalization to their snowman if they want to.
I know the prep took a long time but I think it was totally worth it and I think it is great that you can get all ages to participate (big buddies and little buddies). Everyone has a job to do to make the snow men 🙂
